Our play program in a working class district of Lima, Peru, is in a finished garage near a women's shelter, opening onto a quiet street. The whole street gets closed off when the children come, and nobody minds.

A music student has been donating time to teach the youngsters. This boy is talented at playing recorder, and later will learn how to play an Andean flute . |

The "quena" is difficult to play, but gives a special character to Andean music.

The teacher has devised a very easy written note system for the children. They drop everything to participate when they see him coming.

Sebastián, elderly gentleman from a place in the Andes called huancavelica, knows how to play the pan-pipes locally called "zampoño".
